Top Tactics For Improving Leadership Skills

I suppose at some point, we all get an opportunity to lead in one way or another.  Whether it be with your family or friends, serving on a board, heading up a group of volunteers… or you have just been promoted to a new role with direct reports or perhaps you are the CEO of any size company…all of us need to continuously be open to improving our leadership skills.  At any given time, we have no idea who is watching, listening and learning from any leaders behaviors, actions and wisdom.

So why not lead by example for those who need more than “words”?  Add a few of these to your life and it might help boost your leadership skills:

  1. Read books by reputable authors who have lived and experienced what they are writing about…not just someone who knows how to write well
  2. Find someone you respect that is in a leadership role and ask them to meet with you on a consistent basis to provide insight and wisdom to you.  Come prepared to those get-togethers with questions for them to answer or subject matter to discuss.
  3. Ask 3 to 5 people in your circle to give you a performance review.  If this is business, choose one of your direct reports, one of your supervisors, one of your clients, one of your colleagues and one of your friends.
  4. Clear your head daily by taking a walk
  5. Journal ideas and concepts
  6. Bring others in on discussions/brainstorming so there are varied ideas being presented
  7. Train others.  By training people, you will see what is valuable, what works and what doesn’t in the process.
  8. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new.  Learn a language, travel outside your sphere of influence, take a tour of someone else’s company or industry to see how they do things differently, join a CEO/Leadership round table group
  9. Listen actively  to direct reports and provide feedback
  10. Pay attention to the market  (past trends, current circumstances and future assessments)
  11. Stay on top of technology
  12. Empower others

Until then…

The Reason Your Facebook Ads Aren’t Delivering

You’ve decided to spend money on Facebook Ads, but after spending a chunk of change – you’re not getting the results that you’d like to see. Here are some of the reasons why your ad might not be performing to the best of its ability:

1. Budget

It’s just as easy to under-spend as it is to over-spend on Facebook. Your ad performance hinges on finding the sweet spot when it comes to your budget. Ultimately, the more you spend, the more results you will get. But if your targeting is off, you can spend WAY too much for way too little results. That’s why it’s important to do your research before placing your ad. We always recommend starting on the lower end of your budget, and working your way up every week/month until you find that sweet spot.  Read more

A Note From Our Owner: Buzzwords That Should Die

I’m pretty sure it’s just because I’m over the age of 30 (okay… 40….. or….), but Buzzwords are this thing in business that resonates with me like a mosquito that shows up on a muggy day and won’t go away. No matter how many times you swat at it and try to squish it. Often, I find myself wondering how they even get started? Then, I find myself wondering how long we have to suffer through their longevity. Last, I’m reminded that even though they go away for a time, they often come back around… once people have forgotten them… as if they were some new hip original term… and we have to go through the whole process again.

Just to be clear, I’m all for coming up with new and innovative ways to say or state something (I mean, of course… I’m a lifelong marketer), but there is so much information showing up on the “digital highway” that I quite frankly can’t keep up with, I’m really starting to miss the old adage: “Just say it” (or as I like to say “spare me the rhetoric and get to the point”).

Here are a few words I’d like to see go away… at least for now (wishful thinking…I know): Read more
