Elements That Contribute To Viral Videos

With social media growing rapidly, videos are the next popular feature. Between Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Youtube, businesses have a major advantage to communicate their message through the hottest media outlet available with minimal production or labor costs.

We did a little research and uncovered 10 points that will help your videos have greater impact and viewership:

Emotion

Incorporating emotion is important, whether you are telling a story or just using facial expressions. People want to see that you are real, including seeing facial expressions, so sharing emotion is key.  Which leads into our next point…

Authenticity

While social media has developed into user’s highlights, videos bring a digital sense of authenticity back to social media.  Why is this important?  Because authenticity has been noted as one of the top 5 components consumers look for when considering a purchase.

Humor

It’s been said that the most successful advertising incorporates kids, dogs and/or humor.  But to use humor just to use humor…doesn’t work.  It has to be authentic humor…real (see points 1 and 2 for logic here).

Transitions

Transitions can make or break a video. It helps determine the flow or in some cases, the non-flow. A great tool for this is InShot, which is a video app you can download on your phone.

Surprise Factor

Wow!  Surprise!  AWE! We love a shock ending or twist we didn’t expect.

Popular Hashtags

Research your hashtags…they can make or break you.  They not only expand your reach but also cause people to search easier to get to your page.  Make sure they are relevant and don’t lead the viewer to something they do NOT want to see.

Education

Learning has become fun again, because of video.  Educate your audience in a simple and clear fashion and it will drive a greater following, especially if you (wait for it) use humor, wit, authenticity….you get where we are headed here.

Less is more

When first starting videos on any platform, it can be overwhelming. By taking the approach that less is more, your videos will surely be more successful. Note: videos that are easy to watch are easy to remember.

Captions

Consider adding captions as a way of making them interactive and user friendly.  This will also help our friends that are hearing impaired.

Pops of color

Is it fun? Is it vibrant?  Does it look cool? It has to be for Gen X, Y and Z to even pay attention to it. Color brings life to video and can create a vibe you may not have from the video content alone.  But don’t overdo it.  Just a “pop” means “accent”.  Not  an explosion of color.

Next time you watch a video, notice the things you like or dislike about it. Was it too long? Did it make you laugh? How was the music/audio? By starting to analyze elements of the media you consume, you will become a better digital media creator.

Top 3 Things Employers Look For In Your Social Media Accounts

Social recruiting is becoming the new way of life. Before you’re even considered for a job managers and recruiters are now using social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to see who you truly are beyond your resume. Of course having an amazing resume is crucial, but it’s not the only aspect employers take into account when deciding who they want to hire. Today, we are here to tell you the top 3 things employers look for in your social media accounts.

  1. Are you who you say you are?

Employers don’t want to just see what your social life is like. They are looking to see if your social media accounts reflect who you say you are on your resume and cover letter.  They want to see if everything you say you’re qualified in, corresponds to what you have on your social media accounts. LinkedIn is huge when it comes to this matter! First of all if you don’t have a LinkedIn account, I would highly recommend jumping on bandwagon and creating one! LinkedIn is the place to connect and show off all your accomplishments on a more professional level. Employers tend to look at their candidate’s LinkedIn profiles to see if qualifications and previous job experience reflects their resumes. They want to make sure you are consistent in your overall personal brand representation.

  1. Mindful Sharing

Nothing is private.  When you are about to post something even questionable on social media, think to yourself “Would I really want my boss to see this?”. If the answer is no, don’t do it! Sure, social media is a great place to express who you are and what you love to do in your free time, but there is always a time and place to post these things. Maybe think twice about posting a picture of you and Sally clearly intoxicated on your instagram.

Employers will look to your social media accounts to see if what you’re posting is professional and appropriate. No employer wants to hire someone who could potentially give their company a bad reputation. Seeing inappropriate images or foul words on a potential candidates social media is a huge red flag. To avoid misrepresenting yourself, think through what you want to share with the world…Because in today’s day in age nothing is private and nothing is ever truly deleted.

  1.  Are you a good fit to the company culture?

Employers want to get a feel of who you truly are beyond the resume and cover letter. They want to see if you would be a good fit to their company culture. One way to quickly see if you match their culture is by checking your social media accounts. This is the best way for employers to see what your hobbies are outside of the professional workplace. Whether its a picture of you by the pool with your dog or communicating with a friend on twitter. Employers are able to get a better sense of you are as a person, rather than just a bland description of you on your resume. Like they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words! Social media has the power to give employers that intimate view inside your social life. This tends to be a deciding factor when it comes to the hiring process. Employers want to make sure you are a good fit for the company and that the company is a good fit for you.

So instead of overthinking what you should post to your social media accounts, remember to just post content that positively promotes who you are as a person. Be true to who you are and give employers absolutely no reason as to why they shouldn’t hire you!

A Note From Our Owner: Buzzwords That Should Die

I’m pretty sure it’s just because I’m over the age of 30 (okay… 40….. or….), but Buzzwords are this thing in business that resonates with me like a mosquito that shows up on a muggy day and won’t go away. No matter how many times you swat at it and try to squish it. Often, I find myself wondering how they even get started? Then, I find myself wondering how long we have to suffer through their longevity. Last, I’m reminded that even though they go away for a time, they often come back around… once people have forgotten them… as if they were some new hip original term… and we have to go through the whole process again.

Just to be clear, I’m all for coming up with new and innovative ways to say or state something (I mean, of course… I’m a lifelong marketer), but there is so much information showing up on the “digital highway” that I quite frankly can’t keep up with, I’m really starting to miss the old adage: “Just say it” (or as I like to say “spare me the rhetoric and get to the point”).

Here are a few words I’d like to see go away… at least for now (wishful thinking…I know): Read more
